In Africa's Sahel region, which consists of countries like Chad and Cameroon, reforestation projects are bringing about a positive change. People are breathing cleaner air, and reforestation of large swathes of land is providing respite from the scorching sun. However, the projects face major setbacks as people continue to cut forests for fuel and other purposes. Poverty and corruption drive people to cut wood, which can push the region to desertification, undoing the efforts of the reforestation projects. (The above audio is in French.)
