"[The Electricity Development Corporation] gave us hope by promising us that after the dam is put in water, we will seriously have fish, and at a low price. But when we leave for the landing stage, the fishermen hardly look at us."

These words of Faroukou Kombo, a farmer in the Képéré Deng Deng canton, a village surrounding the Lom Pangar hydroelectric dam, reflect the concern and disappointment of the people regarding the difficulties they are experiencing in obtaining fish supplies.

Since the construction of the dam and its resulting 540 square kilometer reservoir in 2012, access to fish has become a major issue for locals. Accustomed to fishing in rivers, their technique is not adapted to the deeper stretches of water.
